Trolling for help

The Alaska Trollers Association is asking the City and Borough of Sitka for $25,000 to help fight a lawsuit that threatens to close the Southeast Alaska Chinook troll fishery.

Here's a letter from the association's president, Matt Donohoe.

And here's a background legal summary from the association's attorney.

The Sitka Assembly is set to consider the funding request on Jan. 10.

Not a good precedent for the CBS to set, but it will pass. They are used to giving away everything anyway. Just like Silver Bay dock, and Loads of cash to ALFA. Whose next... step right up.....

The ground has already been broken as far as support for a number of Sitka's economics bases. As a fishing/health care/visitors community Sitka has stepped up over the years.

Sitka's been giving away the farm forever. On October 6, 1867 Prince Dmitry Petrovich Maksutov lowered the Russian American Corporate Flag, and hoisted the Star Spangled Banner for Governor Jefferson C. Davis. Even the Russians wanted to move the Capitol to Astoria when their vessel Juno attempted to get across the Columbia River Bar, looking for a larger King Salmon run, but bad weather had the bar closed, if you know anything about Pacific Fishing.
