Easy there!

Deckboss has heard different accounts of how it happened, but the seiner Shady Lady clearly met with trouble during Wednesday's Sitka Sound herring fishery. Hopefully the boat, seen here tipped alongside a big tender, got out of the jam safely. Kathee Bigley photo

What happenned to the boat? It looks like he had too big of a set. I watched a video of the bumper boats in Sitka. The captain of the Shady Lady was going to fast with all of the other boats and hit the Confidence.

Glad nobody was hurt! You give a rookie (want to be) roe fisherman a full speed ahead-throttle and a VHF radio and in my way of thinking he makes a public idiot of himself. I feel bad for the crew and captain of the F/V Confidence.

First off chucklesr study up alittle on setting a net during a sac roe fishery......it happens fast by nature. Second, anonymous dont be a fricken "telephone tough-guy" state your name! My name is Mike Reddekopp and I'm the captain on the other boat in the picture. Calling Dean Anderson a "rookie roe fisherman" proves how much you lack in being able to discuss herring fishing scenarios intelligently. Dean's father pioneered the Togiak roe fishery and Dean has fished in sac-roe fisheries statewide for close to 30 years. Your probably not even from Alaska and to young and wet behind the ears to know all of that though. As far as the Confidence...... Leroy has been using his intimidation tactics for years. With his steel boat he tries to intimidate and block out fiberglass boats even when he is not setting. Praise goes to Dean for refusing to be intimidated out of a living. Lets see..... vessel setting gear with net in water, other vessel....net onboard skiff still attached.... Quiz, youngster....Who is the give-way vessel? Next ramming vessel hits victim vessel on starboard side.....Another quiz, superstar.....Who's at fault? Get out the checkbook Leroy or get a good lawyer or probably both, as I have a feeling your going to need it.

Hope he doesnt get the same one as the boys from the Crimson Beauty have for their pending case in Kodiak. Seen this thing elsewhere in AK at the various Red river and Kitoi hatcheries openers, but this, this takes the cake. Thanks for the blog!

mike is pretty accurate with all the important stuff and i would say that dean anderson character is far from a rookie and the guy on the confidence is not a rookie either but more of a calculated crasher as i understand the look on his face upon impact was stone cold!
