The news from Goodnews Bay

Way out in Western Alaska, commercial herring fishing opens at 11:00 a.m. today in icy Goodnews Bay.

The quota is 800 tons, with Coastal Villages Seafoods apparently the only buyer on the grounds.

I wonder how much money Coastal Villages CDQ group will lose on this venture.

800 tons of herring is peanuts compared to what SE and BB herring fishermen got for their commercial efforts.

Western Alaska is being squeezed out of the commercial fishing sector. They have the CDQ program instead.

Are they making the fishermen sign another piece of paper before buying their fish?
