The Sitka Sound sac roe herring fishery opened for a third time Saturday, and seiners bagged 3,740 tons in a little over three hours.
State fishery managers now estimate a total of 13,776 tons have been taken so far this year.
That's less than half the preseason quota of 28,829 tons.
Not to worry, however.
The latest Department of Fish and Game update suggests plenty of herring are still in the area.

hahaha... 150k ton's of herring where? Oh thats right the model is wrong! Great management ADF&G! Leave them in the water and let them be.
Agreed. Barring a miracle there are about 70-100k tons of 4 and 5 year olds missing. Call it a wrap. Sorry Troy and Leroy you'll just have to rob an extra creek or two this summer.
It's all over but the crying.
I went out today and caught 12.78 tons no competition no fish cops, it helps to be well armed. We sold the haul out of elfin cove , I think the buyers were japs or some other slant eyes.
