The Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association, which represents driftnet fishermen, is thinking about jumping into the processing game.
That's the sound of it, at least, based on this teaser the organization posted today.

In almost any manufacturing business, you have to have economies of scale that match up favorably to the top dogs in the business. The top dog processor in the Bay is SBS, so you have to achieve throughput costs that can compete with or get close to those of SBS. A 15 million dollar barge/plant doesn't get you a seat at that table. Now you could say that the product will then go into value added and that's how the difference will be made up. Just dream on. There must be a better use for the money.
