More on the proposed CFEC transfer

Deckboss didn't have time to catch this morning's legislative hearing on House Bill 386, but was able to snag this sponsor statement.

The bill would fold the Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission into the Department of Fish and Game.

Basically, state Rep. Paul Seaton, R-Homer, seems to be saying the commission's workload has become too light to justify its continued existence as a standalone agency.

YES
Idle hands are the devils tools.
With nothing to do I would expect to see the CFEC starting witch hunts into permit leases, phony transfer and residency

question: if 3 commissioners only did 3 permit cases in a whole year what else did they do?

CFEC does more than just limit fisheries these days - you may have noticed their reports and presentations at BOF meetings, science conferences, and the reports that they put out. They also administer our 16,000 or so fishing permits. Only managing 3 permit cases is a red herring that Seaton is throwing out because really, the only thing HB 386 does is fire the commissioners as part of Seaton's little fit.

Seaton - representative from Homer, home to the largest population of CFEC permit holders in the state.

Really, the best representative out of Homer?
