Webster rejected for Board of Fisheries

After considerable debate, Alaska legislators voted 30-29 against Vince Webster for another term on the state Board of Fisheries.

The governor's other two appointees, Reed Morisky and Tom Kluberton, were confirmed by unanimous consent.

Strangely silent from all the trash talkers. Wonder why? Many of those who threatened, used profanity, said very ugly things about some individuals just never saw the ball after the kickoff. Some people let you know that your meanness was counter productive and would not help Webster. Yet you persisted. You were told that many of the staff of legislators read the Deckboss blogs and would resent your ugliness. Yet you persisted. Amazing! Perhaps it is time for the competing users to kiss and make up so that a happy compromise can occur. There will be someone from Bristol Bay appointed to take Webster's place. Let's find someone who will work within the framework of the process in a fair manner and not abuse the process.

Abuse the process? what a bunch of bullshit. Worst fucking lies I've ever seen thrown around...and I've seen plenty.

Why pick someone from Bristol Bay. Pick another one from Fairbanks.
Who's your guy Ricky?? Let us know

Only a moron would put their name in for the Board of Bullshit now.....

He's just baiting you into saying something so the legislative staff they have been courting will see it.

I love how KRSA, while Literally being investigated for espionage, has the gall to Launch a character assassination against Webster and then talk About working in a fair manner and abusing the system.

Sad day for fisheries management in Alaska, and it's a sad day for the Alaska Legislature for allowing that kind of bullying to happen.

I fished Bristol Bay for a few years in the 90's. Sold out in 95. Live in the valley now. I've been watching the BOF maneuvering for a lot of years, and have attended many meetings.

If I had any sort of investment in Cook Inlet right now I think I would seriously consider selling out. They will soon be history if the trend that KRSA and Mr. Stoltze are pressing. This is all about politics, obviously.

I belive the drifters in Cook Inlet have a lawsuit in the works to the effect of curtailing the politics of the BOF in favor of a more scientific method. It looks to me like this is the only chance those folks down there have. Too bad there is no way to get the politics out of it.

Congradulations. You've succeeded in making a mockery of the entire public process, from the BOF, all the way to the capital. Good to know the extent of the corruption level your payoffs have reached. Careful witch hunters, what comes around, goes around.

Some of the testimony of representatives on the floor alluded to a fair amount of bullying by those pushing a no vote on Webster. Perhaps some (more) ethics investigations are in order. Sad day for Alaskans.

Absolutely! Research the saying, "by hook or by crook." Dont expect to be able to dump on anyone you want to with reprisal.

Probably time to move on, don't you think. Who will the governor choose to replace Webster. Someone from the Bay no doubt. Robin will have a big say in the choice. And the new person will have several meeting under his/her belt by the time UCI meeting takes place. This could all backfire on KRSA depending on who the Governor selects. Whoever it is will get an automatic pass, as KRSA has used up its juice and good will for at least a couple of cycles. Maybe he can find a John Jensen clone in the bay. That would teach em.

10 of 12 (83%) of serving Legislators who attended the Kenai River Classic in 2012 voted against Mr. Webster today. $13,249 (includes a few legislators not in office in 2013) was paid in 2012 for food, lodging, guided fishing, and “gifts”. The advice on how to vote was free. Not a bad investment, eh?

Excellent Investment! Makes me green with envy. The governor and some of the people that worked so hard to keep Webster are probably red with anger. And those who threatened, yelled and cursed are yellow with cowardice. Quite a party of emotions.

You commercial guys just have your panties in a bunch because you got beat at your own game.

The KRSA won this one, they showed up in Juneau at the busiest time of year and methodically lied to our legislators knowing many were too busy to check the facts.
I doubt even the membership of the KRSA realizes how dishonest and unethical its leadership is, let alone our legislators. Sad, but that's what we're up against, and if you think it will end with Cook Inlet, think again.
They'll get their comeuppance but not soon enough.

Say what you will about KRSA. But I will give the organization this - the Comfish industry bashes it at every opportunity it gets, never hesitates to drag their name through the mud - justifiably or not - and literally blames it for anything that doesn't go their way; I mean, really, if the Comfish peeps are not happy with something, have you ever heard them blame anybody but KRSA?
While KRSA seems to take a licking and keep on ticking, no matter how things may be going, it's nice to see it not openly retaliate through words or lay blame continually on the Comfish for what in reality is a problem in the way Alaska chooses to manage its highly charged fisheries.
Seriously. blaming KRSA every single time something doesn't go your way is getting old.

^^^^seriously???^^^

You saw how they retaliate today. That was open enough, no? oofta.

I quit commercial fishing in the Inlet back in '71.

You could see the political pukers already lining up to kill the runs with greed and politics.

When you manage for client catches and not escapement goals, you will kill the runs, and then move onto your next ego thrill.

Greed is an evil trait. Control is a trait of tyranny. Alaska's fish resources belongs to all it's people. Tyrannical greed is destroying a way of life for all Alaskans. Soon more and more people won't be able to afford the over-priced oil to heat there homes. There is no end to the issues in this crooked state.

Time to go back to heating with seal and whale oil.

Beware....ricky & reuben r bob penney clones.......the governor is a weak leader.......the legislatures that supported them will probably never be re-elected.....the citizens of this State not just you fisherman have had enough!

You could not be more wrong. this is just the beginning of the new reality. The legislature has got the message. No longer will Dept. and BOF decisions be based on the needs of the few commercial people, but on the basis of what's best for the resource, and then on what is best for the most Alaskans. Webster tried to throw the PU fishers under the bus. He got caught and now it is adios Webster. And if the Dept. has not got the message, say good bye to the Commissioner and a director or two. And if the Governor didn't get it, then say good bye to his fisheries staff and he can kiss off any future office. He probably has heard that message loud and clear by now.

@7:35 ah, hubris at its finest.

You commercial guys are done.

"This is just the beginning of the new reality".

KRSA is going to get the whole 5 million Sockeye run and every King in the river. We will be able to fill all of our freezers with PU fish. Whatever we don’t eat we can throw in the dumpster and do it again next season. KRSA is going to purchase grinders to take care the fish guts that PU fishery will produce. The Kenai will be a sport fishing paradise with shoulder to shoulder sport fishers. The river bed will be carpeted with pixies and treble hooks.

"And if the Governor didn't get it, then say good bye to his fisheries staff and he can kiss off any future office. He probably has heard that message loud and clear by now".

8:07, did you say "hubris'? Wow! That is a very good word and may even be appropriate in context of what is being said on this blog. Considering what you said you probably are not a sports fishing supporter. And based on your knowledge of the kings english you are clearly not a commercial fisherman. Who are you? Hubris, indeed!
