Salmon catch expected to exceed 203 million

This year's commercial salmon catch could top 203 million fish, says this Alaska Department of Fish and Game forecast.

If the prediction holds true, it'll be the fifth-largest salmon harvest since Alaska took over management of its fisheries from the federal government in 1960, the department says.

A huge expected return of pink salmon is a big driver behind the rosy forecast.

Commercial fishermen caught nearly 169 million salmon in 2010.
