It's possible they were initially a little optimistic on tender expense, tug fees, people costs, etc. Also, interest percentage on their pack line is not going lower anytime soon. On the plus side, at least one major processor has disappeared, Peter Pan, and two others are weak. So, if they can survive their first two years, they have a chance. Call it 50-50.
Good point. Of course, same was said about Silver Bay. And, Clan Blakey have big nads. But, also are overly optimistic. Either way, hoping for a great season. Need it.
The Bristol Bay fleet should do what they can to make this endeavor successful. It could be a model for other areas. Are they freezing the fish whole and not trying to recover eggs?
Recovery and down south is a recipe for poor quality roe products. Roe should be easy gravy hiding within the grounds price. Ben might be ignoring the obvious.

Yawn.
Best of luck, Ben. You will be able to steal some fleet, but the real producers are not moving.

It's hardly called stealing fleet when permit holders transfer to an unknown entity in the bay. But, probably safer than fishing for OBI, I guess.

They'll recover eggs but down south in Washington, where further processing will happen.

Probably best to ask Ben if he's ignoring the obvious.
Sockeye roe is the least desirable of the roe products out of the state. Would not classify it as "gravy".
