If 2259MT of sablefish bycatch was reported rest assured that double or triple that amount was actually caught and dumped over the rail. The council is corrupt and allows the big guys to destroy the fisheries at the expense of the smaller operations. This is a disgrace!!
Its unfortunate for sure. However the science(surveys) are behind a few years. Rest assured the block cod biomass has exploded from California all the way to Unimak pass. Black cod permit holders should be ecstatic with these numbers.
I don't see a lot of black cod in the central California area.
I hear that there has been a lot in Washington and Canada.
