The Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association is preparing to survey its members — again — on potentially buying back some of the drift gillnet permits in the Bristol Bay sockeye fishery.

"BBRSDA is sending a postcard survey seeking the advice of its members as to whether or not to proceed with a socioeconomic impact study," the association says on its website. "The analysis would provide valuable additional information to the fleet as they weigh the pros and cons of proceeding further."

More information here.

The 200-300 people who will respond are not representative of the fleet at all. The only responses
will come from though's in support of a buyback with over 70 percent of the fleet not involved. These questionnaires that get thrown around issues in the bay are in no way representative. Why not do it this way, if you support the buyback mail in your response, if you don't support it do nothing. Possibly we could do that for the whole organization, none responce is a no vote, then the darn BBRSDA would go away. Bring that forward one of you board members and everyone will vote by not doing a thing. A vote to close down BBRSDA----those in favor of BBRSDA mail in your vote---- those opposed to BBRSDA do nothing---- please just one board member do that much for us.......

Ditto dat!!!! It is an organization with political orgination.... it was settup knowing that less than a 1/3 of citizen's (in this case drift fishermen) vote. It is a systemic problem, not just with fishermen. It is a government/political boondoggle... and it needs to end by voting the bums out of office and establishing term limits, get rid of the career politicians, who supported the creation of the BBRSDA through "take advantage of the masses" legislation.

Do you ever go to the meetings or read the agendas/minutes on the website, 9:18, to keep yourself informed?

Why would either of the first two posters bother to educate themselves? They're almost certainly too busy absorbing ideology from Fox News, America's #1 Fact-Free Zone. With all that Fox has to give, who needs to seek anything more?

BBRSDA trys to find out the will of it's fleet on a contentious issue. Before there is even any kind of vote tallied, those who refuse to respond to the question, criticize this seemingly protective process as being unfair. BBRSDA has elected seats. I'm sure that most are willing to listen to ideas and complaints. If it is broken, fix it.
