State Rep. Louise Stutes, R-Kodiak, has filed House Bill 112, titled "An act repealing the Alaska Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission and transferring its duties to a commercial fisheries entry division established in the Department of Fish and Game and the office of administrative hearings."
Stutes is chair of the House Special Committee on Fisheries.

This could be a good solution...move the commissioners and adjudications to OAH, then they will be able to finish their decisions as they wish, no distractions...Meanwhile keep the great staff that issues our licenses and processes transfers as well as giving us excellent data, it's a must! I think the governors office can see the beneficial savings, meanwhile other offices are taking cuts, time to take them all around!
The daily news says CFEC lawyer commissioners cost $200,000 each.
Look at it this way: you want $600,000 in lawyers to do 3 cases a year, or you want a whole research program for your fishery in your part of the state?
Just like at home after a bad season, you start to set priorities depending on what's most important.
