The National Marine Fisheries Service has approved another round of salmon disaster relief. The outlay will total nearly $13 million, and will be distributed as follows:
• $4.5 million in direct payments to the recreation fishing sector, including sportfish guides.
• $7.5 million for research, restoration, education, gear replacement and modification, and outreach. Of this sum, $6.4 million is for the Yukon-Kuskokwim region and $1.1 million is for Cook Inlet.
• $700,000 in direct payments to commercial buying stations and salmon buyers in the Cook Inlet area.

6.4 mill for Yukon-Kuskokwim!?!?!?......they haven't caught that value in fish in 10 years!!
there suffering have gone on far longer then the poor downtrodden and abused kenai sport fishing lodges!the yukon and kuskowim people should have gotten more!also it's not about value of dollars per pound of fish!it's about feeding ones family and the nuturing of ones culture!try it sometime,it might make for a better world?
Yes, I would be curious to know how much has been spent in AYK on salmon over the last 20 years. Probably thousands of dollars per harvested fish. There's a whole "disaster" industry in place now that thirsts for funding.
Hopefully the "education and gear replacement" for AYK goes to the trawlers so they can figure out a way to fish without catching salmon. We just want our healthy salmon runs back, not money. @ 9:50 we have not had a commercial king opening in 16 years on the middle Yukon.
Heard that ESSN in Cook Inlet are getting the lions share for commercial users. As much as $50K in some cases. Guess it pays to sit on the beach in order to save the Chinook runs to the Kenai. All that whining and they still get a payday. Isn't America great or what?
@8:27.....if you haven't had a king opener in 16 years then surely it is safe to assume you have figured out different ways to make a living by now and a welfare bailout is late and ridicules!
