Closing in on the finish

We've now had three openers in the Sitka Sound sac roe herring fishery, and seiners have taken an estimated 13,500 tons, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game says.

That leaves us only about 2,800 tons shy of the preseason quota.

The fleet could polish that off as soon as tomorrow.

The Question is how many of miles of spawn have they had over course of these opening? Bait is worth more!

Most years roe herring brings far more than bait. Removing herring during winter fishery is no different than removing in the spring. The fishery is very well managed.
