Butterflies at Sitka

The Sitka Sound sac roe herring fishery goes on two-hour notice effective at 8 this morning.

That means the fleet will stand ready to drop its nets quickly once fishing conditions are right.

Here's the latest update from the Department of Fish and Game.

Any word on price? Lots of variables this year with the huge quotas and tsunami.

the fishermen should smarten up, the fish are worth more in the water than in the freezer. if this quota spawned, it would benefit the future, and the opposite would take place if they took the quota with all the uncertainty.

herring in the water making more herring is like money in the bank making more money. the state should step in and keep the fish for better times.
