A colossal Sitka herring quota

The guideline harvest level for next year's Sitka Sound sac roe herring fishery is 81,246 tons, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced.

That's by far the largest preseason quota ever set for the fishery.

The previous record was 45,164 tons set for the 2022 season.

Big crab news for Kodiak

Alaska crab news has been pretty depressing lately. Now comes something brighter.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game today announced a Tanner crab quota of 5.8 million pounds for Kodiak. That's a huge jump from last season's 1.1 million pounds.

Monster quota announced for Sitka Sound herring

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game today announced a preliminary guideline harvest level of 18,866 tons for next spring's Sitka Sound sac roe herring fishery.

That's way above the hefty 14,000-plus tons seiners bagged each of the past two seasons.
