Circle Seafoods barge set to sail for Southeast

Circle Seafoods, of Aberdeen, Washington, issued this statement today regarding its newly built processing platform:

Circle I, the first floating salmon processor, freezer and transportation barge of Circle Seafoods, is scheduled to sail from Aberdeen to Metlakatla, Alaska in time to support the peak of the Southeast Alaska Salmon season.

The barge will buy and freeze salmon in Metlakatla during the 2025 season. After salmon is frozen, it is held in the barge’s cold storage area at ultra low temperatures or shipped out of Alaska in ultra low temperature containers.

The sailing of Circle I is a massive milestone in our journey to shape the future of wild seafood. A huge thank you goes out to our construction and production teams, industry partners, and the communities of Aberdeen and Metlakatla for their contributions in getting us to this point.

For more on the company's planned operations this season at Metlakatla, check out this press release.

Do Alaska fish landed in the sovereign community of Metlakatla have to pay Alaska state landing taxes, ASMI taxes or any enhancement taxes? If not, it's no wonder Circle can pay more for the fish. When will the state of Alaska say enough is enough and cut off the Tsimshian welfare?

Enough is enough of what? Maybe expand on your welfare comment.

Get your facts straight, 9:41. NMFS mailed ballots to 379 permit holders, with 215 permit holders voting to approve the Southeast seiners welfare program to purchase 64 permits. Now that Metlakatla won their welfare case in Metlakatla Indian Community v. Michael Dunleavy, Doug Vincent-Lang and Amanda Price in that 9th Circuit, you may wish to also review why President Harding visited Metlakatla Indian Community for a king salmon barbecue, during his Voyage of Understanding in June of 1923. How long you been fishing, 9:41? No Southeast seine buyback tax either!

The Southeast seine permit buyback was not welfare. Get your facts straight, 4:56. The remaining permit holders have to pay back the buyback loan.
