Here's another look at that derelict Japanese fishing vessel, the Ryou-Un Maru, as seen Wednesday about 170 nautical miles southwest of Sitka. The unmanned boat, drifting northwest, got loose after Japan's massive tsunami in March 2011. CNN and other media outlets are reporting the owner of the squid boat has been identified, and that the U.S. Coast Guard today might sink the vessel as a hazard to shipping. USCG photo
I think that since it has stayed afloat this long and has no apparent list, it must be a pretty decent boat and should be towed back and put up for auction. Salmon tenders are in demand right now.
ReplyDeleteYes, and that would be 8,000 less gallons of diesel fuel pollution.
ReplyDeleteTow the damn thing back to town, salvage the fuel, and sell it. what a waste to sink a good boat. Look at all the aerials on it. Obviously has a pile of electronics on it, probably good Furunos.
ReplyDeleteI hope there are no nets aboard that will continue to fish for the next 20 years.
ReplyDeleteSomething from another country floats into our waters and all we can think to do is blow it up?!! Imagine the reverse, one of our ships floats into russian waters and they blow it up....
ReplyDeleteWith a little video magic we could superimpose Iranians on it, nuke it, youtube it, and declare total victory over their navy.
ReplyDeleteRadioactive squid! The Fukushima marine invasion begins!
