Alaska's 'escalating campaign'

Back in September, we heard from interests who believe Alaska is using its majority on the North Pacific Fishery Management Council to the detriment of Washington and Oregon industry players.

Now comes another voice urging greater Washington and Oregon representation on the council to balance out Alaska's advantage.

In this memo to Washington's congressional delegation, Bob Alverson of the Seattle-based Fishing Vessel Owners' Association says ... well, you really should read it.

Sure to draw an "Amen!" from Washington and Oregon folks, and raise the hackles of Alaskans.

End the privatization of all federal fisheries now and then nobody will have time to fight over shit like this. Make everything a big race for fish. No cdq no ifq, just a bunch of happy fishermen with jobs again doing what they love to do.

maybe washington and oregon can thin out the trawler mafia and help save halibut and salmon stocks.

Sad to say but greedy "local" Alaskans are ignorant to a fault!!! Did you develop those fisheries? Do you "own" those federal waters? Do you make all your own equipment locally? Do you sell only locally? Lord strike me dead but if you don't figure it out and get over this Locals vs. the F'ing Outsiders thing OUR fishing industries will be battling themselves instead of doing the right thing and working together making "it" better. Unless you are fishing from a bidarka, using a grass net on the beach, crap'n over a log, you are no longer some customary and traditional local! CDQ's? Yeah right. When was the last time you carved a trawler from a whale bone and went offshore with it? Or a crabber? This whole thing just stinks! Corruption galore.

While I respect those who risked and sacrificed to pioneer the industry, they have been compensated for it. Creation of quota in the fisheries brought stability to them, and created more value in them. That value is in the quota they received and perhaps made their vessels worth more.

Nobody made anyone from WA or OR sell to Alaskans. Now that they sold out their investments, they want MORE of a say over how the fisheries are conducted? Doesn't seem quite right...

CDQ's were the bait these same WA and ORE guys used to get the AK native vote for pollock AFA and halibut and blackcod IFQ's when the NPFMC created them.

Now they are upset with the deal THEY thought up????

HA! HA!

Bob, you f%$#ing hypocrite. The structure of the NPFMC was good enough for you when you and the schooner fleet wanted IFQ,and then rammed them down all american fishermens throats. You no longer carry the clout you once had, as we have swept out many of your colleagues who corrupted the council process. The council has a fairness not seen in many a year at present. Refreshing to see that the wealthy and influential do not allways win.

Anonymous said...

Agreed...Alaskans have educated themselves and now aggressively participate in the NPFMC process. The likes of FVOA can no longer easily walk over us. Run along now Bob, your message is old and tired.

Anonymous said...

I wish upon you Bob, FVOA, DSFU the same fate you resigned me to when you championed IFQ's through and I lost my job and joined the bread line. The council worked for you as you and your FVOA owners enriched themselves with IFQ monies which no man was entitled to. Now as Alaskans have learned to posture around your quickly diminishing influence, you now cry foul. No sympathy here.

The great thing about the CDQ is that it brought an economy to bush Alaska,an area that was/is economicaly depressed. What sucks? The oceans are being deforested, corruption is among the ranks and there are stupid people like Bob that have an opinion and what to share.

Need smaller boats and less boats to prevent the oceans from completely being over fished.

You sold your fleet to Alaska. That's your own damn fault.

To the discriminatory idiot who posted third on this thread. Love how you attempt to go to the gutter with your greedy alaskan comment. Then you continue to insult Alaskan Natives by referencing in your manner.
First alaskans are not all natives. Tho we hold a special bond with our native alaskan brethren.
Second, vessels from down south love to use our harbor facilities and service infrastructure which affords them comfort while in state, yet take with them the majority of ex vessel prices leaving little if anything for coastal alaska to fight over.
Third, WA/OR boats leave in your wake, as you high tail it out of state, the destruction of bycatch species.
We welcome all to enjoy our beautiful state and all she offers, but be respectful.

Alverson for all his wisdom, alleges discrimination and increasing unfairness, but fails to provide any examples of this discrimination or unfairness.

Just sayin.

You got them going this morning deckboss.

Poster #3---go crap in your hat

Anonymous said...

I am #3, and I am Alaskan. I am not proud of that ignorant, selfish, closed society attitude. Oh, and our harbors, built with federal dollars for the most part, so try again. Apparently you are not aware that we are strong as a nation, not just a State, as great as it may be. Ever hear of divide and conquer?

Anonymous said...

Harbors turned over to the state as my moorage bill reflects. You be the ignorant one with your racist references. If you feel the way you post, try one of the other 49 states.

How can I hold hands and work with those who in fact have divided and conquered thru their selfish rationalized programs. Many who promoted these programs did not care about the fishery and wanted the millions of dollars bestowed on them. How many of Bob's boys adhere to the setline agreement anymore? How many of those who voted thru IFQ sold and now live in luxury and could give a rip about the rest of us? Hegge voted and sold out while f#%&king over all his employees in the process. This why we all can not get along.

Wesley
Sharpen you mind boy. Alverson wrote the first piece and got a couple of cronies to sign it, so it's just Alverson escalating Alverson.

Amen to the hypocrite tag too.

Poster #3: I too am an Alaskan. As well as Native. Born and raised. You sir/madam, are a racist bastard. Move to Oregon or Washington. I think you'll fit in better there. Or, better yet, try somewhere like the backwoods of Tennessee, where your ignorant, racist views will be embraced.

Anonymous said...

You want to talk about racism? How about native preference, programs, etc, etc, etc! I don't exactly see too many "non-native" only specified programs. Don't even go down that road. You sir are the racist.

Anonymous said...

wesley, you aught to do a little investigative journalism and attempt to nail down the number of sales bobby a. (why are most a-holes named bobby?) was paid to broker sales between the fleets he's attempting to fight for and the cdq fleets he's now going after. you may find that he made money as a lobbyist to get the ifq program in place, got paid on the sales of quotas going north, and now getting paid to try and get it back. talk about job security!!

Oops, I crapped in your hat.

Divide/conquer check out latest bycatch pictures on tholepin blog of oregon trawler wiping out tanner crab/halibut off of kodiak island. This is why we will never hold hands with WA/OR fishers

Headline for Bob A:

"DUMBASS WITHOUT A PLAN STARTS FISH FIGHT"

CDQ 20 year review coming up in 2012. Write letters to their umbrella group WACDA and ask that they include your comments in their 'personalized review' of themselves. What a crock of crap that is!

"DUMBASS WITHOUT A PLAN STARTS FISH FIGHT"???

Ever meet Bob T?

And his UFA plans, shown best from his jackass party plans, using Dr. Crapo, where restructuring a fishery, just depends on where one stores his favorite diaper pail.

Shit for brains at UFA Juneau, in the Alaska Supreme Court, where "equal protection" has always confused a (D) Jackass from Juneau!

Bob A, meet Bob T, where even the Juneau Department of Law, could not find a lawyer without shit for brains!

Lance Nelson's best shit for brains case, that also includes Carlson v. CFEC, the longest running shit for brains lawyer employed in Juneau, because he couldent get a job anywhere else in America!

State Board of Fisheries and Shit for Brains, v. Grunert, where even the Alaska Supreme Court, has to explain bobby's plans from the (D)onkeys (D)iaper Pail of (D)epends!

Shit for Brains, shown best at Bob Ts UFA!

Meet Dr. Crapo, and the Alaska edu system, where criminal action is required to graduate to professor of the shit for brains...bobbts best friend!

Enjoy.
