2C quota holders would be wise to sell out of the halibut fishery, as no limitation on the charter fishery is likely to happen anytime soon. The latest iteration, the catch sharing plan, is going to get killed, like the charter IFQ plan before it.
One can see, down the road some, when the tourists off the cruise ships will pretty much take all the available surplus halibut in 2C, leaving little or none for the commercial fishery.
thats why we as commercial fisherman need to bring a class action lawsuit to protect our resource from being stolen through politics and and deceit.we need to show the difference between commercial fishing for a living, where the halibut is the resource that provides the money to pay our bills.and commercial sport fishing where the tourist is the resource that pays the charter cap't bills.take all the halibut away from the charter,in other words hook and realease,he still can make money because the tourist will still pay to pull a largehalibut up,take pictures and cut it loose.if the halibut are taken from the commercial fisherman he has no way of making the money to pay the bills.so who is more dependan't on the halibut as a resource?come on fisherman we got to come together and bring this lawsuit to protect our interests even if it means a few dollars per pound of ifq'sto hire the law firm!how many lawsuits have you seen so far from the charter and tourism industry if we do nothing expect nothing.happy fishing!
"protect our resource from being stolen through politics and deceit"?! HaHa! How do you think you got that resource in the first place? Too bad you IFQ guys are such pricks, other fishermen might've stood up to help you. You guys have led the way in making the industry so divisive and now AK is going to fall apart piece by piece...but as long as you're 1st, we're all just going to watch.
we earned those ifqs when we made up our minds in our younger days to become a fisherman not a doctor lawyer banker are cattle barron !what were you befor becoming a charter nazi!it's all about career choice my friend!
