how about the buddy system between the state fish and game and the tourism industry along with the territorial sportfish members in the state legislature? we have buddy systems all over this state just look at the number of ex state fish and game workers getting into fish lodges or halibut charter operations.and now we have an ex state fish and game worker taking arnie fuglovs place in lisa murkowskis office do we see a new buddy system coming?
Um, are you speaking of the cozy relationship between Rep. Bill Thomas of Haines, Co-Chair of House Finance, and the Tourism Industry?
The same Rep. Thomas who wielded the budget axe on the Alaska Travel Industry Association because they had the temerity to actually go participate in the public process of the NPFMC on this issue?
Don't forget how Haines got rid of the cruise ship watchdog from the community, courtesy of Bill Thomas and his supporters plus Bill Thomas recent APOC fine of over $4,000.
Or even better, Bill Thomas' membership in UFA (favorite of Bobby T) and he is on the board of Sealaska. That makes 2 unethical board members on Sealaska (Kookesh & Thomas, both in the Alaska State Legislature).
But that doesn't stop Bobby T hiring Floyd Kookesh for lobbying under his personal dime on issues related to the Sitka herring fishery during the time Floyd was employed at Tlingit & Haida Central Council as the subsistence coordinator.
the trawlers representatives on the npfmc saved the draggers again. every year they can stall reducing halibut, sablefish, crab, and salmon by-catch reduction is hundreds of millions of dollars in the trawlers owners pockets. the best council members money can buy.
good work trawlers fleet. the rest of us are screwed.
It's good that lots of attention is focused on the NPFMC these days. Their buddy system is not appropriate.
