Suit targets pollock trawlers as threat to fur seals

The Center for Biological Diversity is suing the National Marine Fisheries Service for "failing to prevent northern fur seals on St. Paul Island from declining because of prey competition with the Bering Sea's massive pollock trawl fishery," says this press release.

One has to wonder how this ties in with the criminal investigation with the pollock roe.

Conclusion study at the center of the lawsuit.

"The evidence we report is supportive of our operating hypotheses: .... first-year survival has been affected by the magnitude of the pollock catch in the EBS. All three of our approaches for evaluating the relationship between pollock catch and lagged declines in St. Paul fur seal pups imply substantial correlation."

The study commissioned by oceana. Totally legit.

It’s hard to believe that removing Billions of pounds of forage fish from the Bering Sea would not have some effect on the Fish and Wildlife that live there.

Ahhh yes. The forage fish argument. Way to employ SATB talking point #2. There's 15 - 30 billion pounds of pollock in the Bering Sea. The fishery takes less than 15% of the adult biomass and zero of the age 0 and 1 juvenile pollock. The largest predator of the juvenile pollock is the adult pollock, eating over 50% of age 1 fish. Do some homework and stop repeating stuff you don't understand clown.

The case will be dismissed, the judge will see the study was sponsored by Oceana and totally ignore the evidence.
