Draggers aren't real fishermen...

Draggers are real fishermen. They’re a whole lot of us that participate in a lot of different fisheries. Crab. Salmon. Halibut. Cod. Polllock. That’s what I consider REAL fishermen. What the hell do you fish with? A pole?? Or a dip net?

Pot and longline A season starts in January also…

Haha. You're right, the guys fishing 10 months a year in the harshest conditions, using pound for pound one of the most selective gear types in the Bering sea (pollock), aren't real fishermen. It's the guys fishing the bay 3 weeks a year.

That's the selective gear type the drag fleet discusses, catching Crab, Salmon, Halibut, Cod, Pollock, Killer Whales, Sea Lions, and what ever else gets their trap, with all kinds of menu item selections.

Agree with 9:57AM. Looking at a sonar and dragging a net is a low skill fishing technique.

Fact is longline and pots account for more total pounds of discards in the Bering sea and GOA than pollock. And don't get me started on the UNOBSERVED crab bycatch and halibut discards. The pollock fishery didn't catch those orcas but a LL survey did. I'm sure life is rough in your multimillion house in Homer or Sitka.

Right! Operating and maintaining a machine that hauls and chills all that fish is super easy!

It won't matter, there will be no dragging in the future. They are killing everything and wrecking the bottom.

You're just regurgitating ENGO talking points. There is more halibut and crab bycatch (and chinook) in non trawl fisheries. You take trawl out of Alaska, there's not going to be much of an industry left. I don't think you guys realize who pays for your growths and subsidizes your airfare and markets. Good luck selling black cod in Dutch or having your processor survive a bad salmon year. But, whatever, keep going after trawl and see how much better off you are! I'm sure salmonstate and oceana will write you a check when you're boat is tied up.

Remember back in the day when legacy companies like Wards Cove and Peter Pan would loan fisherman money for gear, vessels, and permits? Sure that was a failed business concept, but it’s here helped young fleet members to own their own business.

Take trawl out of Alaska and all of the other fisheries will prosper. to much trawl bycatch, their is a facebook page that tells the truth about it. Make Alaska Great Again, no more draggirs.
