Pollock power

The Bering Sea pollock fishery is enormous, and it will continue so next year.

The North Pacific Fishery Management Council, meeting in Anchorage, has recommended a 2024 total allowable catch of 1.3 million metric tons — the same level as this past season.

There was a huge fight among pollock companies on this issue. The stock assessment would have allowed a higher harvest and some companies wanted to grab it. As a political/legal strategy, other companies wanted to leave the increase on the table.

The big catcher processors are undercutting the catcher boats and the shore based processors. They are simply much more efficient with less BS to deal with. You will see Trident transition to a catcher processor fleet. Its rumored they are selling assets in order to buy up American Seafoods assets.
