It's on at Togiak!

The Togiak sac roe herring fishery opened at 8 p.m. tonight.

Here's the official announcement.

The quota is enormous at 29,012 tons.

What are those boys getting per ton this year?
It's a shame such a nice product yields so little return.

Giddy over fiddy dollar per ton

Trident cuts its daily processing capacity by more than half from last year. How does this work for a fleet of fishermen that must put in as much fish as possible to make any money at 50 dollars a ton? And how does it work for Trident to make money with a plant that processes far less than half of what the SBS plant does in a day? Guess who ends up with the lowest cost and the best possibility of making some money for themselves and their fleet. The market for herring roe isn't going to rebound much, if at all. So the only way to survive as a fleet and a processor is to think like SBS. Trident lost too many people I guess.
