The closure continues the fishery's slump.
A few years back, for the 2023 fishery, managers sparked great excitement in setting a guideline harvest level of 5.8 million pounds for the Kodiak District. GHLs tapered from there.
For the 2027 season, the Chignik and South Peninsula districts also will be closed along with the Kodiak District, Fish and Game said.

The science told me the giant 5.8M pound in 2023 was needed, and now we have multi-year closures. I also ignore the fact opilio had a giant quota then the fishery collapsed, the science told me the collapse was due to warm water. The science also told me the small crab or crab in cod pots that are thrown overboard all die, but the crab that goes in the fish hold miraculously live. The government gives me checks years later for the crab fisheries, this is the way the fisheries should work.
Funny, I don't remember you ever testifying to any of that. Guess you're happy enough.
They should do pot survey not drag through all the crab, how much you think they kill or miss.
Lucky you. I wish the government would give me checks for the crab fisheries that are closed in my area
Instead of posting hyberbolic slop, I would suggest folks talk with Nat Nichols the ADFG biologist managing the stock.
