A buyer for Peter Pan's King Cove plant?

Oregon-based processing giant Pacific Seafood is showing interest in acquiring Peter Pan's idled King Cove processing plant.

That's according to this KUCB report.

Let's see. The previous owners in a stroke of genius disbanded their Bering Sea pollock co-op. So no more Bering Sea pollock will go into the Cove. Not sure what they did with their Bering Sea crab processor shares, but it doesn't matter much as Bering Sea crab is probably history. Cod resource is down in the BS and Gulf. Bairdi in the Gulf is insignificant.

Silver Bay basically owns the gilnet fleet by virtue of controlling Port Moller. SBS has most of the top seiners in the Peninsula as well as the remnants of the Cove fleet. Trident has the remaining seiners.

The plant hasn't run in a year and no doubt continues to deteriorate. Does anyone really think this plant by itself is viable?

Excellent and accurate comment.

You all realize that Trident and Pacific are literally sister companies? This makes total sense.

Despite a marriage, these two companies are not close at all. That being said, it is true that if Pacific was also able to acquire Sand Point then they would have a slim chance to make it work. However, rebuilding a fleet to service both Sand Point and King Cove would be very difficult. Top seiners are not just going to walk away from SBS. Sand Point sits nice geographically for salmon, but rumor has it that the pollock plant has been torn out and the meal plant disabled. No one seems to know why.

They can get everyone back as long as Rodger May is not involved. The top seiners are King Cove guys and they can get all the cod they want from the Bering Sea with tenders. Just need a higher price.

I'll be surprised if it runs anytime soon — no heat in all those buildings and still fire damage in the crab line. Pacific said they wanted to get in on all Dungies being caught so I don't know, but hopefully though, so Silver Bay can't be like old PPSF and say one price, take it or leave it.

Wha? Cod with tenders AND higher price? That's laughable.
