Legal trouble for Northline's processing barge

A Washington state company, Leo's Welding and Fabrication, has gone to court seeking to force a U.S. Marshals Service sale of the Northline Seafoods processing barge.

The company, in its five-page lawsuit, says it's owed for work to ready the barge for its 2024 debut in the Bristol Bay salmon fishery.

The suit says nearly $1.3 million is currently owed.

The 2024 season didn't go smoothly for the Northline barge, which was somewhat hobbled by a fire.

Northline is expected to take its barge to Bristol Bay again this summer.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the plaintiff's attorney is a major Silver Bay Seafoods shareholder. Get ready to lose another processor in Bristol Bay.

Rob Zuanich is bringing this lawsuit. He is a founder of Silver Bay Seafoods. From his website: "Today he remains a managing partner, and runs the business and political sides of the company." This is nothing more than Silver Bay trying to put a stranglehold on the state of Alaska's fishermen.

SBS needs every pound they can get in Bristol Bay this year. Rumor is $250++ in med to long-term debt, not counting their LOC.

So, Leo's Welding and Fab isn't allowed to hire Zuanich according to this group? For $1.3 million and costs, at least Zuanich is making some extra cash from the neighbors. So, it's Zuanich's fault that Blakey can't pay his bills? Maybe Blakey should study at Zuanich Park at the Port of Bellingham, and fill out an application for their industrial development bond program. After Zuanich bought Fairhaven from PAF in 1965 for the Port of Bellingham at $598,000, they do know how to make a deal. Next thing ya know, Peter Pan was born, and Zuanich just got that one, too!

This has nothing to do with SBS trying to knock off a competitor. This barge can process in a season what SBS can do in two days in the bay. This is about a longstanding grudge between Greg Blakey and Zuanich.

Rob "Ambulance Chaser" Zuanich has shed his winter skin like any other reptile, and in his new hunger has set his sights on Northline. Why, you ask? Well, because the less competition in Bristol Bay, the more Silver Bay can manipulate prices.

This is not a Northline issue, this is a competition issue and nothing more. Every fisherman who fishes for any fleet should be upset about this. This is just a bully trying to take advantage of the situation and exploit it. Why isn't Rob commenting or answering? Any kind of press questions?

I have one question. Silver Bay is partners with BBEDC and BBEDC is in partnership with Northline as well. How does BBEDC feel about one partner trying to tear another partner to pieces? I can't imagine they're too happy.

This lawsuit is needless and will harm all fishermen in Bristol Bay. I cannot believe leadership of Silver Bay would approve of this sleazy maneuver.

While I agree that the plantiff's attorney is absolutely using this as an avenue to settle a longstanding grudge, the reality is Northline has stood up many other small businesses as well.

Pay up.

Seriously? Everyone dumping on Zuanich and SBS? Northline contracted with a service provider that did a couple million dollars worth of work and is still owed over a million dollars a year later. Maybe the guy needs to be paid or secure a position if/when Northline goes under. That barge poses zero threat to SBS other than it might dump product way under value to stay afloat, driving salmon prices down. Bottom line, the guy needs to be paid.

Agree.

Just pay up — make it right.

Is it possible that Leo simply wants to get paid for the work he did? Give me a break, guys.
