The legislative task force examining the economic crisis gripping the Alaska seafood industry has posted its final report, which makes quite a few recommendations.
Will any of these recommendations ever be implemented? Would they make a difference?

I have big issues with the Board of Fish being as political as it is. It absolutely needs to be science-based and not based on feelings.
Some recommendations from the report that caught my attention:
• An emergency loan program through the state Department of Commerce or the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority to "support industry participants during market disruptions"
• A state program offering low-interest pack loans to small processors
• A $30 million funding increase over three years for the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute.
Every time the state has another task force nothing happens, except for blowing a pile of money and making another future task force. It's quite the business model Jay Hammond started in 1980, when New England went bankrupt. Now it's Peter Pan, and plan 6.

Word salad.
