Search underway for multiple people in Southeast

The U.S. Coast Guard and good Samaritans are searching for five people from a fishing boat that reportedly capsized near Point Couverden in Icy Strait.

The boat involved is the Wind Walker, the Coast Guard says.

  3. The U.S. Coast Guard has released the names of the missing people:

    Travis Kapp
    Jacob Hannah
    Alex Ireland
    Emilio Celaya-Talamanter
    Michael Brown

    A Coast Guard spokeswoman advises the names are "pending verification internally and with the Alaska State Troopers for accuracy."

    Kapp, of Sitka, is the owner of the F/V Wind Walker, the Alaska Commercial Fisheries Entry Commission database shows.

  5. The Anchorage Daily News reports the Wind Walker was heading back out to continue halibut and black cod fishing, with poor weather forecast in the area.

    10/19/2024
    WIND WALKER
    A crewmember experienced a medical issue, and the vessel
    requested a MEDEVAC. The vessel arrived in port prior to a Coast Guard response.
