  1. Wow. What a long winded way to say nothing new. I'll save you the trouble of reading and summarize by saying they recommend research.

  2. It's always the same thing with politicians who need more money for another study. The Magnuson Act's cost are over $3 billion and they haven't solved a thing, except to change out a foreign fleet for the same type of destructive domestic model. In 2020, 54% of the Chinook salmon bycatch originated from coastal western Alaska with 2.3% attributed to the middle/upper Yukon River systems. Bycatch in the Gulf of Alaska is almost entirely composed of fish from Southeast, B.C. and the Pacific Northwest. More local control, by people who would rather get an Endangered Species Act listing, like those loggers did with the spotted owl. The Yukon's going to make that Endangered list this spring, that will solve this problem, once and for all. Then we can study how much steel scrap is worth, like the State, who sold the ferry Taku for $170,000, and put it on a tow line to India.

  3. Very frustrating to see the task force hi-jacked by a few well placed corporate trawl lobbyists. The most basic recommendations of redefining pollock nets dragged on the bottom as bottom trawling didn't get accepted. If we can't use common sense we are doomed.
