Help for Chinook?

A major breakthrough in genetic "fin-printing" could help conserve weak stocks of Chinook salmon, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game says. More details here.

Wesley, the first link is broken. And in any case, this hardly seems to be news...at least to the informed. So, they can tell three large stock groupings throughout western Alaska? Holy fucking shit. Give them the Nobel prize. Designating all of CWAK, the middle Yukon and upper Yukon (assuming that's the stocks they defined) is a hardly new news and I hope that's not all they came up with out of funds that "spent" out of their research intiative.
Please follow up with Templin and Seeb to get clarification on what, if anything, is actually new and groundbreaking.

The State has been rigging the genetic studies to stay away from any blame on the trawl industry.

Sad but true.

Genetics is used up and down the coast to sort out the river of origin, except in the Bering Sea where all chums are lumped together.

First they know the bycatch numbers are rigged and historically under-reported, and now the State has joined the trawl industry in their genetic testing.
