  1. Set nets are the reason for the decline in the King Fishery. As the Red numbers increased and you got more days the KING numbers tumbled. Accept decent restrictions like 100 Yard sets from low tide and everyone might be happy. Other wise the only solution to save the Kings is to get the US Government to name them Endangered. Then NO ONE FISHES.

  2. Since we have a treaty with Canada in regards to King Salmon Escapement, perhaps between Canada and the US Government, the Kings might get named "Endangered."

Then, all the fishers in the State of Alaska will face extreme restrictions. We will not be happy campers.

  3. Bull shit Jim Dicken. Curious how you blame the set nets for the numerous non-Cook Inlet king runs that are declining.

  4. Just wondering how you can get kenai late run king salmon on the endangered list when for the last 26 years they have met their goal?

  5. They met their goal for 26 years so they can't be endangered......hmm - since a guy was alive for 76 years he can't be dead now? same logic or lack thereof.

  6. The new lower goal for the Kenai River king salmon will not be met. It is the lowest return and lowest escapement on record.

    No problems here. Roger that.

So Judge, even though we are now closed, we would like to fish the maximum numbers of discretionary hours in the management plan.

  7. The judge permitted the conservation organization to intervene today. He will see through the greed of the ESSN crowd. They always forget that the kings are to be managed for sport and guided sport who in turn are those who are supposed to harvest them. Their greed will have the BOF and others in the legislature looking at whether the ESSN fishery should even exist. Time for an initiative to start a buy back of those permits perhaps. Either that or they better find a way to fish without killing kings.

  8. "conservation organization" - i.e, Bob Penney and KRSA crowd. The only greedy bastards are the conservationists who want all the salmon for pu dipsticks, commercial guides, and any Johnny come buy property from Bob crowd.

King problem? ADFG can't count kings and they acknowledged it in their escapement goal reports. King problem? Gee, 7 or the 8 last years kings overescaped. Greedy? Sounds like the only Greedy Crowd was ADFG run by Sport Fish Division. Want Fish - reallocate from Commercial Fishermen - same ol time mememorial Greed Play by Sporties....

    1. Yeah, you don't want opposing views so you claim the blog has gone down the tube. Penny has done more for habitat restoration on the river out of his own pocket than all, repeat, all of the commercial fleet and set net crowd together. None of you recognize the value of the sports fisheries to the community. You just ignore facts., Better get smart because the ESSN fishery is on its way out. It is not needed, is destructive to other stocks, and will go the way that so many other set net fisheries have gone: AWAY. Watch for the voter drive to put it on the ballot. It's coming.

  10. ESSN have had their livelihood destroyed already. Is it really necessary to Keep taunting and threatening them on this blog?

  11. Don't you think that the sports and guided sports have also suffered? How about all of our businesses like motels, restaurants , sporting good stores and on and on? When the kings are shut down the whole community is as well for the most part. Thank goodness for the PU fishery as it keeps the engine running for at least a couple weeks. I was no threatening, just pointing out what may well be a solution if the ESSN crowd does not start looking at new means and methods instead if blaming the in river fishers for the problem.
