United Fishermen of Alaska, the state's largest commercial fishing organization, today made two big announcements:
• Julianne Curry is taking over as executive director, effective tomorrow.
• Arni Thomson has stepped down as UFA president, effective today.
Here's a news release with more details and photos.
Sorry to see Arni go. He has done a very good job and is well respected. Ms. Curry did a good job as an advocate for PVOA and i think she will do the same for UFA. Naming Paul Shadura to any leadership position for however a short period is a mistake. He works hard but is way too polarizing and generally unreasonable in his dealings with policy makers. fortunately his role will be very limited and over in a hurry. Our organization will otherwise be well served by the new appointments.
ReplyDeleteIt truly is a sad day for UFA. Mr. Thompson has done so much for UFA, and in just a few, short years! - expanding membership, growing its economic base, appealing to a broad spectrum of Alaska and Northwest players, and most importantly bringing balance and direction to UFA. He should be thoroughly congratulated for a very good job done. I echo the concerns raised above regarding Mr. Shadura, who has not shown the grace and skill Arni has given UFA. Ms. Curry has been a wonderful Petersberg advocate, however, and I look forward to seeing her extend herself out to Southcentral and Bristol Bay members. We are sad to loose you, Arni!
ReplyDeleteCurry is very polarizing...we will see how it goes I guess...
