Oh well, better luck next year

The latest statewide tally of Alaska's commercial salmon catch is out, and we now stand at just over 118.5 million fish.

Given that we're a week into September and many fisheries are done, it's likely we won't make the harvest forecast of 132 million.

On a brighter note, it seems that prices have been pretty good this year. Anyone disagree?

  1. prices ok, but maybe next year Gunner should wait to comment until the first fish hit the dock. Talking the blues preseason only helps the processors.

  2. Deckboss,
I am just wondering if you know any of the season ending prices for the main Bristol Bay Sockeye Salmon processing companies (Trident, Icicle, AGS, Snowpac, Ocean Beauty, E&E, ect.). Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your updates on this great blog.

  3. Gooner has never had much positive to say about Alaska seafood. If it were up to him we would have Salmon farms all over the state and the wild fish would be an aside. Can anyone tell me why someone in Fairbanks is qualified to represent Alaska seafood? Personally I'm looking forward to his retirement.

  4. About the bristol bay prices I left the bay with 80% of $1.00, I believe yak and icicle were the same or similar. No Idea about anybody else. Final settlements should be coming out soon.

  5. Leader Creek paid $1.15/lb for bled chilled sockeye. That will be it until a profit sharing adjustment is made to the 2012 pack on 4/01/2013.

  6. the prices were too low this year. considering that pws produced very well and alot of area's were down the price should have stayed on last year's average. damn trident lowballed the price and everyone followed. Down 20 plus cents on everything.

  8. We got $0.43 for pinks in the Sound this year. Trident set first, and everyone followed. They paid almost a buck for PWSAC cost recovery fish. Anyone hear what they were getting in Kodiak or SE?

After the $0.04 retro this spring, I figured we'd be starting out around $0.47 or so, but that didn't happen for us.
