What a joke! There are more instances of this mushy halibut problem than imaginable and the commission needs to hear from the fishers. What is this Commission comprised of, Ostriches, with their heads buried in the sand? This an example of letting the fox be in charge of the chicken coop. When is the Council going to do what is in the best interests of the resource instead of what is best for the commercial interests? When? Never, i suppose, as long as the Council's make up is dominated by the very interests that are affected by its regulations.
I am not confused> It is just that the problem goes far beyond the issue the Commission is presently concerned with. Getting a grip sometimes means looking at the main issue of over-fishing the resource. It might turn out that there is a connection between that issue and small halibut an even mushy halibut. But the problem of over fishing remains and until The Council starts managing for the resource instead of what is best to maximize harvest for a select few, we will continue to have varying problems. Asking for information on the mushy halibut is just a way of changing the subject and diverting attention from the real problem.
