Commerce secretary in trouble with the law

California authorities are investigating hit-and-run traffic incidents involving U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson. Numerous media outlets have the story, including the Los Angeles Times.

The Commerce Department, of course, houses the National Marine Fisheries Service.

Wesley, please investigate and give your impression of who would be in line to be Acting Secretary of Commerce if Bryson were to step down until the felony investigation were complete. Before Bryson was Acting Secretary Rebecca Blank. Is she still in line? What would be the implications for pending Council selections?

Here's a statement from the Commerce Department:

Secretary Bryson was involved in a traffic accident in Los Angeles over the weekend. He suffered a seizure. He was taken to the hospital for examination and remained overnight for observation. He was released and has returned to Washington. The investigation is ongoing. Secretary Bryson has no public events scheduled for today.

The Secretary was on personal time with no security detail. He was driving his own vehicle. He was given medication to treat the seizure.
