Recently published research examining possible negative effects of hatchery salmon production on wild stocks generated quite a bit of publicity such as this.
Folks at Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corp., Alaska's largest hatchery operator, apparently didn't appreciate all the media attention.
And something will be done about it, according to this summary of PWSAC's May 23 executive committee meeting.
Here's the relevant part:
Chairman's Report (George Covel)
• Google Alerts — PWSAC uses this as a monitoring tool. Recently, over 30 news media
stories have been posted on the internet about research conducted regarding the
interactions of hatchery and wild salmon. Several of these are publications from ADF&G
staff. Covel reported that ADF&G will put into place new tools to prevent this from
happening again in the future. It is important for Department to clear this up. PWSAC is
monitoring this along with Tracy Foster, Foster Communication Strategies.
Deckboss can hardly wait to ask the Alaska Department of Fish and Game exactly what sort of "tools" we're talking about.

Shhhhh, release the spin and control hounds, don't let the truth out... you'll have to relabel all those "wild salmon" products.
Bristol Bay : All Natural, All Wild
Speaking of which, how many of those early big "Copper River" reds were possibly Bristol Bay 1-3's and 2-3's intercepted offshore? How about some scale sampling? The timing would be about right for a North Pacific swirl swing-by. The results could be interesting.
The Kayak Island district was shut down decades ago due to interception rates.
Scale samples from some of those outside boats could clear up the question.
Those copper river fish are not from bristol bay there caught right off the beech.dont worry you can step on those reds and shove them into your warm brailer bag in july
And Foster Communications we specialize in communications for your foster fish too, no frosty windows here!

How many other hatcheries have a pr firm on the pay roll?

What kind of tools, suppressors?
Not really a surprise considering the Parnell administration's willingness to spin the truth for indusry profits, and damn science altogether.
Main Bay Hatchery sockeye, are they sold as Copper River wild salmon also?
I've even seen Copper River Keta at the market. Funny thing is that dogs don't run up the Copper.
There are four basic classes of salmon:
1. Wild
2. Hatchery
3. Farmed
4. Genetically modified
This list is in order of flavor, health benefit, and environmental responsibility.
Truth in labeling.
You guys on Whidbey Island, having nothing better to do, than to talk BS in a blog. Get a life!!!
Stan Was Right
Stan was Right, Phil?
Which Stan?

Private Non Profit???
Now that term always depends on a few board members too...justy like quite a few others.
PNP, won't save em, and proven in every genetically modified society, forever.

Every fishing period the biologists take scale samples of copper river salmon.
Stan was and has never been correct he is however a right wing republican.
The studies of wild stocks and genetic stocks have been around since the first hatcheries. Nothing has never been proven by either side. Escaped hatchery fish have spawned naturally alongside wild fish for decades with no harm to the wild species.
copper river salmon fishermen have no control of what happens to the fish after the processor gets it. Mis-labeling is an FDA problem.
Copper River Seafoods can label all their salmon as cCopper River Seafoods wild Alaska salmon. They picked a good name for their company.
Stan Samuelson said something to the effect that the PWSAC (and affiliated bastards) will end up screwing it all up. Been a long time since I heard it but that's what I remember. Clarifications?
Stan was an A**hole back then & was full of Bullshit! He was actually wrong, reason why he sold out! Goodbye and good ridance to poor white trash!
Poor white trash?
How about the modern; dumb poor white trash?
What cost $.45 in 1975 would cost $1.80 in 2010.
Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2010 and 1975,
they would cost you $.45 and $0.10 respectively.
Do you want to do another calculation on pizz sack?
Alaska is the last frontier for the "Aboriginal Industry", suckering Federal Dollars for the self determination mission while keeping the masses down and poor. Land Claims Corporations and the CDQs have made an upper class of Alaskan Natives that are not going to give up their easy lives without a fight. They employ carpetbaggers to help them keep their upper echelon status.
What's that got to do with salmon you ask? Well, a handful of men are milking the system and they don't give jack squat about the people's culture and traditions. Public money abusers.

As much as we appreciate Deckboss "breaking" the news, it would sometimes be nice if Deckboss followed up, as he said he would in this case, but hasn't yet.
So, I did: according to ADFG staff, the department is not putting new tools into place,
Why just last week, Covel was exclaiming how PSWAC was commmited to scientific inquiry; if it wasn't clear then it is now; Rev. Covel means only the scientific inquiry pre-approved by the Church of Our Lady of the Hatchery.
Them seiners are nuthin' but a bunch of hatchery ho's.
I fished it when it was 5 days a week, 4 hours of sleep, hand pitching...let me tell you, that was game.
Executives, managers, and directors, what a joke.
Looks like Pwsac changed the meeting summary on the web site. Guess it didn't happen after all. Reggiani should be fired.
Fire one guy?? Hell, PW-SAC should be sacked, Alaska should not put up with its fake fish, threats and lies.
