  4. seriously!! Duncan would do a very good job!! he knows the industry inside and out, is a commercial fisherman and would be a strong admonistrator from what I've seen of him over the years.

  7. I read the job description and thought that Alaskas fisheries would be lucky to find a man to fill the boots. X-tra Tuff boots.

"A background in fisheries or fishery related activity is highly desired." limits the field of candidates.

The "Personal Characteristics" section would make Alaskans super lucky to find a man with a "background in fisheries or fishery related activity" described as follows:

"Demonstrates the highest level of honesty and integrity.....Accepts and responds well to constructive criticism......Maintains objectivity and impartiality in making decisions and presenting recommendations to the Board. Has an open mind and able to appreciate and listen to all points of vies. Able to make informed decisions after weighing all the facts."

Looking for the ideal man, "The ED works closely with state agencies......State of Alaska Commissioners of ADF&G,.....".

To make a long comment short, the "Personal Characteristics" qualities should apply to everybody working in 'trust' jobs paid for by State or Federal Tax Dollars. That's the irony of this search for the 'ideal man'!

  8. Why does it have to be a man? almost every post suggests that a "man" would be like this, or a "man" should have that, etc. A majority of the commercial fishing associations have women directors. What about the last PVOA director, J. Curry. She has all the needed traits, loyalty to the Commercial industry, a personality that would work for the job, and the goat stare needed to face down those who oppose her views. She is a chip off the old Petersburg block of take no prisoners when it comes to advocating the commercial fisheries. Or is she destined for somewhere else? UFA?

  10. Marketing experience? Man or not. What's jc and fields marketing experience. Seems filds has a ton. JC, UAF more likely. Good sportskillerskills. Her marketing resume?
    Any comments on that.

How about Jim Kalendar? How about the loser between Kyle and Peggy? How about Ian Fisk, Erin Harrington, Chris Knight?

It alwyas comes back to duncan.

  11. So you're saying being a chip off the old Petersburg block is a good thing? Just what we need, a born and bred hometown mouthpiece for the most self serving, greedy, group of human beings roaming the ocean.

  12. Man is a general term and it includes both the male and female sex.

  13. JC has a "goat stare" when her views aren't.....lets see now, from the desired character list, "Maintains objectivity and impartiality....Has an open mind and able to appreciate and listen...Able to make informed decisions after weighing all the facts." should be enough to say she isn't the one for the job.

  14. "chip off the old block"was said to arouse the thinking minds, some of whom frequent this blog evidently. Sportskillerskills is a good one. Must remember that one because it says it all. Isn't Petersburg the home of a fish board member? The place can't be all bad can it with a board member living there. He is an open minded regulator and in fact is in the sports fishing boat rental business. No such skills possessed by JC has he.

  15. The job description for this quasi-government position is looking for an ED with superman qualities - its asinine that the public can't expect the same from some agency workers.

  16. It pays to clean house once in awhile. Hopefully the ASMI Board is listening.
