Sitka herring seiners in line for huge haul

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has issued a revised quota for this spring's Sitka Sound sac roe herring fishery — 28,829 tons.

That's slightly lower than the preliminary forecast announced back in December.

But dang, it's still a gargantuan number.

    Lets see...at $50 a ton thats not too bad a hit for the genius herring fleet,Its all about testosterone,not money.

    Killing off herring just for the eggs is barbaric and not very friendly to the critters in the sea that depend on the herring as a food source.
