The Alaska Legislature today unanimously confirmed, without debate, Cora Campbell as Gov. Sean Parnell's fish and game commissioner, the Associated Press reports.
Just talked to a friendly eastcoaster today up here in Alaska. He was telling me all about some brave Aleuts who fish for blackcod out of their Kayak's in traditional fashion. When I asked him if they needed any help from fish plants or tenders he said (and I paraphrase) that they don't need any help and wouldn't accept it because that's not their way of life. They go out in their kayaks with hand-lines and brave some of the most unforgiving fishing grounds in North America as their people have for thousands of years. This just goes to show that we have alot to learn from the people who have been fishing these waters (especially Adak area, where fleets are discouraged by lost boats and fuel prices) for generations. Anyone fishing out of a Kayak with a hand-line who ships their fish exclusively to 10th&M in Anchorage deserves a little more publicity and support than this failure of an enterprise that's going on with state support.
Oh Great Howdy Doodiette in charge of us all.........
ReplyDeleteSo if our new commish is a marionette who is the puppeteer, Anonymous? Enlighten us?
ReplyDeletehallelujah - a ray of hope for Adak.
