On the rocks

The fishing vessel TerriGail ran aground Tuesday southwest of Makushin Bay on Unalaska Island. The crew of the 58-foot longliner reported losing power, and efforts to prevent the grounding were unsuccessful. A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hoisted all five crewmen to safety. USCG photo

  1. Can't understand why they could not drop anchor before running aground?

  2. Take a closer look at the picture - it looks like the anchor is not there. Presumably, it was deployed and failed to stick.

  3. Duh. Read the USCG article and it says they tried to hook up the tow, but it failed. The tow would have hooked in with the anchor. Who knows? Maybe the cutter tore the anchor away. Gusting 50 kts is not uncommon in Makushin bay this time of year.

  5. Poor Bob is right! The way Duane has behaved over the last few years is just a disappointment. He doesn't even call his only daughter. And he's been hiding in Texas to avoid paying child support. The B.S. With the estate is just a disgrace The terrigail was his pride and joy he would be so ashamed.Shame on you Duane
