Polar Star update

Just talked with the U.S. Coast Guard about the seiner Polar Star, which went aground Tuesday west of Kodiak.

Sounds like the boat will be saved.

She was refloated, taken to a safe place called Geographic Harbor along the Alaska Peninsula, and then deliberately beached so the crew could better patch a hole in the hull.

The plan, I'm told, is to tow the boat out tomorrow.

Thanks for the update. Good to know that MARCO will be back...

I ran the Chena for two herring and salmon seasons in Togiak, Kodiak, and Prince William sound. All though the hull and house look similar this is not the Chena. The Chena's foremast was stepped right in front of the house and came through the galley. The aft mast had a single boom with no cargo sticks. From what I was told the Chena was the last of the so called "Splinter Fleet" which was a group of Navy style tugs built in the mid 40's. She was a cheery boat and was built like a brick sh*t house. I hope she's still floating!
