Two members of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council, Sam Cotten of Eagle River and Duncan Fields of Kodiak, will see their three-year terms expire in August.
From what I've heard, these two first-termers want another hitch on the 11-member council.
But challengers for the two seats already are stacking up in Gov. Sean Parnell's office. The governor later this year will submit his choices to the U.S. commerce secretary for final approval.
So who wants a council seat?
The governor's office provided Deckboss this list of people who have applied thus far:
Mike Heimbuch, a Homer commercial fisherman
Matt Moir, general manager of Alaska Pacific Seafoods in Kodiak
Donald Poulos, an Anchorage resident and former commercial fisherman out of Kodiak and Chignik
Michael Robbins, an Anchorage attorney
Dick Tremaine, an Anchorage resident and asset manager for Norton Sound Economic Development Corp.

Who wants a council seat?
Who will protect us from corporate fleecing of the small, individual fisherman?
Get those letters going to the Gov. If trawl/processor interests are successful in placing Matt Moir on the council, the death grip held on GOA RATZ tightens...Kid you not, Matt is no friend of the small fixed gear resident fisherman. His voting record while sitting on the AP was undeniable biased towards trawl sector. Let us not place this man on the council, there is enough conflict of interest already.
Heaven help us if DICK Tremaine ever advances further than his current station of suckling on the CDQ teat.
Keep Cotten
Matt Moir actually is a friend to the small fixed gear fisherman,to all fisherman. Of those up for the seat, and of those already on the council, Moir has the most integrity of any of them. He is an honest man and a good person.
If he's on there, you might actually be heard.
Matt Moir is just another TRAWL/Processor puppet who serves a master which could care less about small resident fishermen. Alaska Groundfish Data Bank and their lobbyist(J.B) have been grooming Matt for many years in the hope of placing him on the council. One need only attend one Kodiak Fisheries Advisory Committee meeting to see what this man is all about. Trawl sector needs NO MORE REPRESENTATION on the council.
Duncan Fields should be reappointed to continue his good deeds. This man has been fair minded and really spends the time/effort to learn an issue. I believe his voting record speaks for itself, but will add that he really has Alaskas' best interest at heart.
HAHAHA did Duncan Fields write the post above?! He has nothing but his own best interests at heart, he would have processing in Kodiak shut down if he had had his way at the last council meeting!
You guys are missing the boat on this one. DICK Tremaine is scarier than all of the others put together. DICK is nothing more than a washed up, 2nd rate Anchorage politician who now suckles at the CDQ teat and would like nothing more than to have further resources allocated to the CDQ groups.
Where's the mention on Jeff Stephan also running...What's the skinny on him?
I nominate Teresa Peterson, from the Advisory Panel. Duncan and Cotten are OK, but I KNOW Teresa WILL SERVE the PUBLIC GOOD to a FAR GREATER DEGREE!! -PEACE-
All the posters on this blog should throw their whole weight behind any canidate who will not be a mouth piece of the dragger industry. Word is Matt Moir(Dragger/processor) has drag industry swamping the govenor with letters of support. We can not allow another voice for trawl on the council...Take into account all the latest info on this blog and others such as tholepinblogspot.com that expose what trawl group is getting away with. Let us band together and stop trawlers majority on the council. NO MORE TRAWL REPRESENTATION ON THE COUNCIL

Whoever doubted Dick Tremaine's abilities, has proven that they don't know what the fuck they are talking about.
He will be missed.
