Sullivan, in a social media post, called it "the most comprehensive bycatch bill ever introduced in the Congress."
The legislation now heads to the Senate floor, he said.
Major trawl organizations are less than pleased with the bill and issued this joint press release.
Trawl bycatch has become a hot topic during this election season, with candidates in congressional and gubernatorial races all chiming in on the arcane topic.

The only place all this leads is the elimination of commercial fishing in Alaska. You can take all the same arguments against trawl and apply them to every major fishery in Alaska. Look around and do the math. The number of Alaskans connected to comfish is decreasing every year. I'm sure some of the NGO fishing groups are celebrating but having D.C. bypass the public process to enact populist fish policy is not going to end well for all of us.
