Simple question for every candidate: Do you think it is reasonable for trawlers to dump 4 million pounds of dead juvenile halibut into Alaska waters annually?
A more important question I if the democrats take over and we move towards socialism what will become of the fisheries communist countries have no fisheries and peltola leans socialist. She hides it welll. Mike svenson
The claim that the longline fleet dumps large amounts of halibut bycatch is outdated. Everyone left in the IFQ fleet shakes fish alive, there is very little waste.
How nice of you to determine that. However, last year the GOA fleet discarded 10.8 million pounds of undersize halibut. 16% of them die. That's 1.75 million dead halibut.
Facts are tough to swallow, but by catch is by catch and if you make issue with Trawlers dumping 4 Million for 2 Billion in revenue and tax benefits to the State than you must also look at the significant Longline waste, that is entirely based a market preference, exactly the same way. Waste is waste!

Who is the person, that will stand up for small boats that fish, not just big Bering Sea boats?
