Seattle-based Trident Seafoods Corp. has won a contract to sell the U.S. Department of Agriculture nearly 10.6 million pounds of Alaska pollock products — frozen fillets, fish sticks and nuggets — for $25.1 million.
The purchase is "in support of child nutrition and other related domestic food distribution programs," says this USDA announcement.
Channel Fish was a major user of Russian fish until it got banned from importation to the United States. Sen. Markey kept the Russian fish flowing as long as he could and butted heads with Sen. Sullivan over this. I wonder how much of this school lunch pollock ends up getting thrown out as the supply chain is quite convoluted even for frozen. Lots of small lots going to many different locations!
