Sitka seiners scratched up an estimated 1,800 tons of herring yesterday, bringing the total harvest for the season to 9,770 tons.
About 4,970 tons remain on the quota, the Department of Fish and Game said in this fishery update.

shifting thru the herring isn't good for the resource.
5 hours to catch 1800 tons, the fleet needs to let the rest of the harvest go.There has been "a number of released sets because of marginal quality" Dave Gordon. That just ain't the right way to undertake a fishery.
Greed and lack of respect for the resource, lead by members of the industry's Sitka Herring Conservation Alliance.
